It strecthes between the regency of Buleleng and Jembrana, as natural resources preservation for research, education, recreation and tourism. This beautiful and unspoiled nature park is only 3 hours from denpasar, accessible through public buses and accomodations are available in the park and the areas outside the park. Amongst the abundant wildlife lives the greatly endangered Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi), endemic to the park and declared as the fauna mascot for Bali. This was a crucial factor in making the park a natural preservation.

The park offers both cultural and natural tourism. Situated in Teluk Terima is the grave of Jayaprana, the adopted son of the king of Kalianget, Singaraja. The king felt in love with his son's wife, Ni Layonsari, and on his order, Jayaprana was assassinated.

One night, the truth behind Jayaprana's death came to the beautiful Layonsari in a dream and she then killed herself rather than marry the king. The story on eternal love is similar to Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. The grave is a sacred area with a ceremony held every 210 days. The site also visited by communities from outside Bali for meditation, Gili Kencana temple is located on Menjangan Island, the unhabited island, the hindu temple worshipped by hindu devotees from all over Bali.

The Life of Monkey
When to visit the park, there are many choices for tourist attraction. The clear water around Menjangan Island provides snorkeling and diving possibilities in this unique, pristine underwater paradise.

Trekking in the forest is the other tourist attraction. Wildlife abounds everywhere in the protected area. There are two kinds of monkey: black and gray. The black monkey is rare, they live in the jungle. The grey monkey lives in the forest, they often come out to get food by welcoming visitors.

The road linking Gilimanuk and Singaraja or Denpasar crosses the forest. Here, on the roadside there are many monkeys. They are tame and funny. Domestic and foreign tourist give them food: banana, peanut or biscuit and bread.

In the future, the management of national park must build the feeding grounds for monkeys. The sites of feeding ground are temple yards above roadside in the forest. The royal temple of Bakungan is monkey forest for tourist going to Singaraja and Tirta Empul Temple is monkey forest for those going to Denpasar. In the tourist object, the tourist can buy suitable food for the monkeys and the monkey will get satisfaction. A close and harmonious relationship between host and guest, isn't it.

Bali Travel Guide - Bali blogs about bali travel guide: hotels and villas, beautiful travel destination and major attraction around Bali island and also the latest travel news about Bali island.

'Tumpek', Balinese Sacred Day

Balinese community belongs to the religious one. In other words, all social activities are at all times based on the Hindu teachings. In the calendrical system, there is a term 'Tumpek' in Bali falling once in every 210 days as the summit momment of the god's endowment to human beings (Sundarigama manuscript).

Tumpek Landep is marked with the symbol of kris dagger (weapon) having the meaning to sharpen the intellectuality of Balinese humans.

Tumpek Wariga and Tumpek Uye are indicated with the symbol of appreciation towards the bio-life of which conservation should be maintained, as it becomes the wellspring for the survival of human life.

Tumpek Kuningan is a moment of introspection on dharma (the eternal law of the cosmos) to remind the human beings so they endeavour to archieve the profane and spiritual serenity.

Tumpek Wayang is an appreciation towards the value of arts coming in expression of beauty and nobility.

Tumpek Krulut is the veneration of God coming down to earth in his manifestation as Shiva Nataraja as the creator of the universe presenting the sounds, namely sets of gamelan instruments.

Tumpek Krulut is derived from lulut meaning harmony and concord. This meaning is manifested into the combination of musical elements consisting the fusion of rhythm, melody, harmony and dynamic. Blend of these elements essentially reflects the relationship of human life to several expertise and professions however, they remain to be socially integrated.

In Denpasar, particularly at Tenten Hamlet, the celebration of Tumpek Krulut takes place joyously. Local people assemble together at the village hall to attend several ritual processions. Various gamelan music compositions are played, such as the angklung, gong and semar pegulingan.

Celebration of Tumpek is a moment of harmonic revitalization for human beings in general and Balinese community in particular.

Bali Travel Guide - Bali blogs about bali travel guide: hotels and villas, beautiful travel destination and major attraction around Bali island and also the latest travel news about Bali island.

Affection Day at Sangeh Tourist Object

Virtually all eco-tourism objects and attractions in Bali indicate the accomplishment of a balanced relationship of human to nature, human to fellow humans, and human to God into an intact integrity as mandated within Tri Hita Karana concept. As a matter of fact, this is the key to success of conservational endeavors of nature in Bali that is consistently implemented at the Sangeh eco-tourism object and attraction.

The object located at Sangeh Village, Abiansemal, Badung – 21 km north of denpasar, indeed relies on the fauna and forest as tourist attraction. With the extent of 13,969 hectares, Sangeh has various kinds of shady trees, amongst them are nutmeg (Difterocarpos trinervis) and some of 27 kinds of other trees as gamal, harbesia, pule (Alstonia cholaris), banyan tree and so forth. Similarly, there grows shrubs like ket-ket, lempeni(Ardisia elliptica) and gunggung.

Main 'dwellers' of the sangeh forest are monkeys, apart from civet, java sparrow, spotted dove, snake and some kinds of amphibians. Monkeys at this object are amusing. Should there be visitors coming they start to act, be close in feeling and sometimes sit on the shoulder of visitor while savoring peanuts or other snacks.

Sangeh object has 20 attendants that maintain the cleanliness, security and convenience – some are in charge at the parking lot, in the forest, while others feed the monkeys three times a day in the form of carrot and cassava. At particular times, those monkeys are fed with special food to assure their health. If one of them falls sick it will be specially treated in the laboratory for medication.

In 2003 and 2005, the Sangeh object was expanded and well rearranged by adding the area and tree planting. Alam Kulkul Resort & Spa in Kuta, that was becoming the foster father of this object, performed an environmental care activity by planting some endangered plants. After that, this role was replaced by Bali Tropic Resort & Spa, Tanjung Benoa that planted some trees too.

In the forthcoming 17 February, at this object will be heald a (Hindu) religious ceremony called Tumpek Kandang as embodiment of affection to animals. Four months later, precisely on 2 june, another ceremony called Tumpek Ubuh / Pengantag will be undertaken here for the same purpose to plants. Around this Sangeh object are, there are four temples situated, namely the Bukit Sari in the western part of the forest, Melanting (central), Tirta (Front) and Anyar on the entrance of the forest. Management of Sangeh object and all temples engages the Sangeh Customary Village consisting of five hamlets. Every singe hamlet is given an opportunity to work here for the sake of survival of this tourist object at the same time, earn the life by selling food and varied souvenirs. Some also deeply involve in photography. At this time, there are 71 art shops and 24 food and drink stalls at this Sangeh object.

Bali Travel Guide - Bali blogs about bali travel guide: hotels and villas, beautiful travel destination and major attraction around Bali island and also the latest travel news about Bali island.

Besakih Temple

to assemble north, by the astonishing landscapes of Bukit Jambul, goes up more than 900 meters to the top of the slopes of Gunung Agung in Pura Besakih, holiest of all the temples in Bali. It started most probably like sanctuary in prehistoric terrace where the worship and were quoted to the god of Gunung Agung, the element dominating of landscape in the world of Balinese. Above thousand years and moreover, it was increased and added to until it developed in the current complex of approximately 30 temples.

At the 10th century it was apparently a temple of state. According to inscriptions' kept here, an important event took place in the year 1007. If can be only guessed that this was associated ritual of died for the Mahendradatta Queen, the Co-ruier of Udayana which died the previous year. Since the 1 5th century it was the temple of state of the dynasty of Geigel-Kiungkung which built a series of small temples in the honorof itsdeified of the rules. Now it temple of state of isthe for the provincial governments and nationals which deal with all the expenditure. Today, Pura Besakih is venerated by all Balinese like "temple of mother" of Bali.

In the complex of Besakih, the paramount sanctuary is Pura Panataran Agung which raises its merus high on a high bank of the terraces, stages go up from the long point of view to the austere split door. Inside the force the court holds the three-sitted tomb crowning Trisakti, the trinity of Brahma, Visnu and Siwa, during the festivals the tombs are wrapped out of fabric coloured symbolic system of the deity. Important Pura Panataran Agung and two other temples higher to the top of the slope symbolize in the same way Trisakti together. In central Pura Panataran Agung is hung with the white banners for Siwa; towards the line, red banners of vyith of Pura Kiduling Kreteg for Brahma; and Pura Batu Mddeg, towards the left, with the black banners for Visnu. The latter two temples are taken into account near. regencies of Karangasem and Bangli respectively, some other tombs being the responsibility for other regencies. All Bali comes together to Pura Besakih. Religieusement, the unit is symbolized in the padmasana in Pura Panataran Agung, devoted sang Hyang Widdhi, supreme God.

Pura Besakih is most attractive in the times of festival, but it is large and impressing all the times that you go there. The order to the top of the mountain with Besakih, with a stopover in Klungkung to visit the country and to make shopping, takes a full day. To take again the excursion of Bali east, if you remain in Denpasar, it is the best to leave early the morning the next day. By the going beyond by Klungkung before midday, you can choose a site to lunch on the beach or in the shaded countryside and to visit the cave of beater, the villages tshing and Tenganan before Karangasem of attack in the semi one - afternoon. Now that the new road binding Rendang and Karangasem was finished, it is possible to comfortably make in Besakih- Karangaserm the round voyage in day. You can be lucky to arrive in Bali during one moment when the Eastern villages hold of the ceremonies. Festivals, single at these villages, should not be missed, thus to check the calendar of the events to your hotel to find a good time to visit.

Solemn Ritual of Rice Farmers

It's the regular ceremony performed by farmers in Klungkung regency, notably in the subak teritory of Kacang Dawa located some 4.5 km south of Semarapura city. This ceremony is executed when the planting season comes.

Within a year there are paddy and and crop plant seasons. They cultivate twice crops and one paddy. The most unique ritual can be encontered on the paddy season (usually in November to December). Prior to planting the rice, they cultivate the soil twice. The second one is meant to eradicate the entire weeds so when the paddy flourishes the growth of weeds could be minimized.

When the soil has been cultivated for two times, farmers get down to find the propitous day to plant the rice seedlings. More than that, on commencing to scatter rice seeds is also carried out on a finely selected day. A propitous day to do this is called meniwih. By such propitous day, they believe that the rice planted seeds will develop in a healthy or vigorous way, away from the plant’s diseases and disturbances by the cereal-eating birds. When the right day has been determined, the farmers automatically start to plant their paddy. Since the planting up to the harvest time, it is pursued by several kinds of ritual.

Such a ritual of planting season is inherited through generations and remains to take place up to these days. Having completed the planting, the women farmers are busy at preparing some oblation for the ritual called mulanin. It comprises the tulung mentik, ajengan, buhu and tehenan. This oblation is offered to the Goddess Sri as the goddess of fertility and rice meaning to invoke in order to the plants could flousish.

Later, when the paddy has reached 30-50 days is held meayu-ayu or nyungsung ritual. Oblations presented consist of tipat blayag, ajengan, jerimpen, tulung, gantungan, sanggah urip and buu. Farmers having paddy plant concurrently perform this ritual. Head of subak will select the right day for this ceremony.

Oblations have been prepared two days in advance. On the day od ritual, farmers make a bamboo shrine festooned with young coconut leaf decoration and set up in the corner of rice field (southeast/southwest/northwest) or the rice field square. It is brought about in the morning and afternoon.

The next ritual after meayu-ayu is biyukuyung. It is performed when the paddy plant has been in second month. During this period, the paddy habitually sets to be pregnant (its stem carries empty young paddy). In keeping with the times passes by, these empty paddies will be filled with white milky liquid. Oblations consist of ajengan, tipat balayag, jerimpen, sayut pangambean, susun deha, biyu kukung (cakes made from yellow, brown and white rice flour) and rerujakan or assorted fruits salad. It means to appeal that the paddy grains will grow normally, have content and getaway from diseases.

According to local belief, the paddy grains start to emerge from their stem will find many temptations such as climatic fluctuation and plant diseases. For that reason the biyukukung ceremony is held.

After biyukukung there is also another ceremony called ngalapin. It is carried out when the paddy grains turn yellow. In balinese languange, the word ngalapain means harvesting. Oblation presented for this is consisting of banten sri, tipat ajengan, cawu and gantung-gantungan. Ngalapin is held at the upstream of the paddy field or the entrance point of water into the field.

This ritual can be said unique as the 27 pieces of paddy's leaf are taken and stuck onto three clusters of paddy and its string is made from young coconut leaf arrangement called kamben dewa. Clusters of rice are embellished with assorted flowers just like a goddess and the ngalapin ceremony then carried out.

Last but not the least is mendak Betara Sri. It is carried out when these paddies are dropped by the farmers. The three festooned clusters on ngalapin is cut and palced in the keben (bamboo basket for offering). Its oblation is remarkably simple consisting of canang sari placed on the cluster of paddy and ajengan putih kuning along with canang meraka presented on the paddy harvested and taken for three handfuls. Well. This keben containg the paddy cluster and three handful of unhulled rice is brought home and placed in the rice granary. It's the day-to-day life of farmer's life in Klungkung.
Bali Travel Guide - Bali blogs about bali travel guide: hotels and villas, beautiful travel destination and major attraction around Bali island and also the latest travel news about Bali island.

Calon Arang Dance

It can be the enchanting hour the first night of full moon, when the long shades drew aside like phantoms on the ground, that crowd of village meets around a release close to the temple of deaths to observe the drama of Calon Arang, the widow-witch of Girah. Each Balinese knows the legend of Rangda like CaIon Arang, a favourite in the local folklore.

A long ago, when Airlangga was a king, there lived a widow, Calon Arang, which gave rise to a child in the jungle. The child developed until is the sea famous Ratna Menggali. The girl of line wanted by Calon Arang to marry a fromairiangga' spalace of prince, but despite her beauty, no prince came. Angered by this, the widow learned art from the black magic and practised against the kingdom, making die much people.

When Airiangga intended to speak about the epidemic in Girah, it consulted its high priest, Mpu Bharadah. The priest sent his son to ask for the hand of Ratna Menggali. Calon Arang was satisfied by the offer. The plague dropped, and the couples wed. Calon Arang had in its possession a lontar (palmleaf delivers) black magic lesson. His/her son one day found and gave to his/her father, who then deciphered the formulas with the secret powers of the widow. When Calon Arang discovered the Mpu Bharadah had learned its secrecies, it was exasperated and declared the war on him. The priest did not have any choice but to fight and, in a fight mortal of sorcery, destroyed the widow by moulding a charm. Before she died, Calon Arang required the remission. The Mpu Bharadah freed from the contracts and the way to him towards the sky.

The history showed has many variations, and no two plays of Calon Arang are exactly identical. Primarily, the play is a drama of the magic which is used as powerful exorcism of the bad spirits aligned with the Rangda witch-queen. By dramatizing Calonarang as powers her magical height of at the of Rangda, one hopes it that the execution will gain the favour of the witch and will alleviate her appetite for the destruction.

Bali Travel Guide - Bali blogs about bali travel guide: hotels and villas, beautiful travel destination and major attraction around Bali island and also the latest travel news about Bali island.

Bali's Excotic Eco-tourism

The rich culture of Bali being maintained from one generation to the next generation is never the boring of tourists of reason to visit this island. But Bali does not offer simply its unique culture; eco-tourism also has a part in the attraction of Bali.

The culture of Bali will be always the wire in attraction for tourists. It is because the community follows closely the Hindu lesson, which gives a strong direction of the spirit and dictates their daily behavior. The habits, the traditions and the religion announced in one in Bali equipping the mixture with a strong direction with stability. The large temples always play an essential part and the ritual one are still carried out with full the devotion by Balinese in spite with their increasingly modern life styles, perhaps even with an increasing attachment.

According to the sociologist and the observer of tourism, Dr. I. Gde Pitana, Balinese refute unconsciously the theory of Weber about the relationship between the richness and the culture. The theory of Weber proposes that a culture of companies decreases vis-a-vis the increasing richness. It seems that that in Bali the reverse is true, with an increase in the richness of the company, the cultural values are always adhered to more narrowly. The visitor can observe any ceremony or ritual in Bali to see that the crowned character of the ceremony and the devotion of the people are something but missing.

The tourists do not come simply to appreciate cultural attractions but also the beautiful geography of Bali. The operators of tourists offer much choice of eco-voyage like packages to the lake and the frame Batur, the rice layers of Jatiluwih, Tabanan, river transporting, or plunging by raft, between others.

There are in fact much factors implied by accumulating eco-tourism, the principal consideration is probably of the means of preserving nature. It is not a simple equation there, if the object of eco-tourism is destroyed, will be more tourists to visit the site. To avoid this, eco-to travel the companies must work together to create the programs which are ambient friendly.

Eco-tourism started to affect Bali in 1991 when the European tourists became tired metropolitan life styles of life and were attracted with more again with the environment of nature. Like answer, the companies of excursion started to offer the area of Batur as a regeneration, slackening the alternative. Except the normal beauty of its flows of lava, the Batur frame is also a pleasant mountain to go up to stimulate various excursions of trekking in the sector. After long voyage day, the tourists can slacken out of hot normal sulphur springs at Toyabungkah. Through the lake, the ancient village of Trunyan still offers another attraction with its average narcotics to place deaths above the ground.

In the zone of Tabanan, three beautiful lakes and an abundant forest can be appreciated. More and more the complete equipment appears in the area of Bedugul offering more approvals in this comfortable, fresh and clean climate. In this sector, much of sites can be visited, all offering the normal beauty of the flora and fauna surrounding.

The Agung frame in the zone of Karangasem is still another excellent destination of eco-tourism. Of this, the largest mountain in Bali, hikers can appreciate beautiful a tropical sunrise in the icy temperatures. On a frame of clear time Rinjani on close Lombok can be seen, not to mention the major part of the island of Bali inclining to the bottom with the sea below. The Eastern end of Bali offers one of the most normal habitats and most intact in Bali, the Western national park of Bali. It is here that Bali almost extinct Starling resides among much of another single and beautiful flora and fauna in this protected forest. To protect the sector, the visitors must receive a laiss government before being left enter.

Adventure sports, considered continuously part of eco-tourism in the Nineties are modified like transporting white of water. To transport by raft is primarily a combination of the sports of adventure and tourism because of its capacity to offer to the tourist precipitations of an adrenalin like a scenic excursion of the almost inaccessible parts of Bali by all other means. Two rivers, Ayung and Tukad Unda, were the principal focus for people of the transporting country of the operators by raft. The lakes bali' S started to compete the ocean in what they must offer. Bedugul, for example, offers fishing, the Para. sailing, the water ski and the trekking along its shores to compete of the sports of ocean. However, those which prefer the lucky find of cam of ocean right about any sport to satisfy them; Para. - sailing (DUA of Nusa), plunging (Bali of north), snorkeling (Bali of north), surfant wind (Sanur) and Bali have some excellent waves for surfer (Bali of south and Westerner).

Several organizations with the WWF (funds of the world for nature) held a “control of reff” July in the whole of Indonesia. The coral reefs of the island and Tulamben de Menjangan were the center of the program in Bali. The goals of this control are to record statistics on the condition and to employ the data to improve the conditions year by year.

The expansion of eco-tourism was also enriched by agro tourism, which presents the products of agriculture of certain sectors. As the voyages which however take with tourists the layers in rice terrace of Tabanan or Gianyar, agro-tourism also envisages to present the fruits and vegetables of Bali in their normal environments. the Agro-tourists can see the methods of plantation, worrying for and about the gathering of oranges in Kintamani, Bangli as an example. They are also invited to select oranges themselves and the savor the fruit while appreciating the beautiful sights of the surrounding panorama.

When the season of durian comes, the road of Denpasar with Bedugul is furnished with the kiosks selling this thorny fruit. Often the tourists are taken in the jungle on the difficult ways to see the durian for themselves freely or to select their clean durian. Tress of durian are seldom planted like harvest, rather the trees are wild and thus sometimes difficult to find.

In the fresh climate of Bedugul, the tourists interested in the tropical factories can also visit brought back parts of cabbage and the strawberries are relatively large and completely candy with a luminous red color. Visitors are invited to observe the plantation or the selection of the strawberries in their respective seasons.

Agro-tourism encourages very for the farmers because they receive the additional income of the tourists, which helps to supplement their usually minimal benefit. The sites of tourists who are included in the category of the ecotourism cause the increasing attention as for their normal state so that they can continue to be admired. The conservation of our environment is indeed each one responsibility so that the future generations can continue to appreciate this beautiful ground.

Bali Travel Guide - Bali blogs about bali travel guide: hotels and villas, beautiful travel destination and major attraction around Bali island and also the latest travel news about Bali island.

New Experience in Ubud

Kamandalu Resort & Spa has a distinctive guest activity. The road west, which leads to the low key, relaxed tourist resort of Lovina, passes the temples of Pulaki and Dalem Melanting. The road east passes the elaborately carved Pura Beji at Sangsit and Pura Maduwe Karang at Kubutambahan, with its famous flower-wheeled bicycle relief.

Pulaki Temple
Located about 50 kolometers east of Singaraja, Pulaki is quite surprisingly the centre's Bali's grape growing region, which produces table grapes, raisins and even wine. The village has an attractive temple. Set between lush jungle and the towering cliff's of Bali's northeastern coast. Pulaki is occupied by a large troop of monkeys, which apreciate free food and whatever belongings they can pilfer from unsuspecting tourist.

Beji Temple
A temple in which we found collorfully carvings. The shrine is a temple in north Bali that differing from those of the south. Every crevice of the temple in north bali is gaily earned in curves flames and spirals, cascading a light ebullience everywhere. A fine example of this northern style is seen at Pura Beji (Beji Temple) in the village of Sangsit, the district of Sawan, Singaraja. Pura Beji is a subak temple dedicated to Dewi Sri, Goddess of Agriculture. Naga snake form the balustrade of splendid gateway. Rows of stone towers set a maze of pink sandstone. The courtyard is sapcious and decorated only by a few frangipani trees.

Maduwe Karang Temple
It is a well known Temple area in Bali. Maduwe Karang has been visited by tourist since before second world war. It is divided into three courtyards, or levels. Jaba Pura, the outer court is approached by two steps, which are adorned with a series of thirty-four statues, representing the various characters from the Ramayana epic, The midle court, Jaba Tengah and Jeroan, or interior court are further on. The interior courtyard is considered the most sacred place and situated here is statue of Kumbkarna being overwhelmed by a troop of monkey soldiers led by Sugriwa.

Dalem Temple of Jagaraga
A unique temple of the dead whose humor is western inspired themes such as dogfights, beer parties, and armed robberies may attract many tourist. Like any Pura Dalem Temple (the temple of the dead) in Bali, the Pura Dalem of Jagaraga is located in the vacantly of a cemetery. Everything about this temple is quiet and withdrawn. Stone carvings of demonic faces, peer out from the walls onto the empty courtyard. The most frightening statue being the statue of Batari Durga (the goddes of the dead). Yet to enliven these are some portrayals of the dirtiest, harvest and magical guardians and visitors of this temple will be amused at the humorous relief's of western western inspired themes such as automobile breakdowns, dogfights, beer parties, and armed robberies. These are only example of the playful secular found only in the Pura Dalem of Jagaraga situated in the village of Jagaraga, 11 km to the east of Singaraja.

Bali Travel Guide - Bali blog about bali travel guide: hotels and villas, beautiful travel destination and major attraction around Bali island and also the latest travel news about Bali island

Mesaba, Subak's Ritual as Manifestation of Farmer's Thanks Giving

The Hindu community in Bali continually pays tribute for the proceeds of what they have undertaken. No matter its proceeds are sizable or bijou, they stay to hold ritual activity as the expression of their gratitude to the Creator. Such gratitude is frequently embodied through yajna (holy sacrifice), a presentation to the Almighty God for all of his endowment.

Similarly, the tradition is carried out ny farmers. When the rice has turned yellow or some days by the harvest time, farmers in Tabanan hold the mesaba ritual as an utterance of thanks to god in his manifestation of Goddess Sri. Mesaba ritual transpires at daytime at Bedugul, a subak temple that habitually located in the upstream of rice field territory. By and large, mesaba is held once in three months or in accordance with the age of paddy planted.

When the mesaba ritual is performed, the ambiance of subak(Balinese traditional irrigation cooperative) looks so effervescent. Or if from Denpasar, it is about 60 to 70 kilometers. Gitgit Village is one of the villages in Buleleng Regency that belongs to the teritory of Sukasada district.

It’s not so hard to find the way to Gitgit. The main road from Denpasar to Singaraja passes through the Gitgit range of Hills, instead. It’s easy for visitors to catch public transportation for this route. For some hours, vehicle like Isuzu minibus passes the route, either from Denpasar or Singaraja.

By exploring the main street of this range of hills, visitors will see the nature presenting highly fantastic panoramas. Gitgit actually has a spectacular waterfall. But, more than that, scenery from some corners of Gitgit to all directions is exceptionally appealing. Stop at any corner of the Gitgit range of Hills and you will yee the beauty of the nature.

Street on the range of hills are nice and shady. Both at left and right sides, characteristic plants of the hills grow well. Clove and coffee plantations look like a natural park. Its verdant vegetation refreshes the eyes. On the other side, coconut trees are rising into the sky and waving its young leaves. Durian trees complete the natural park of these hills.

Moreover, just try to choose one corner, like in the morning for instance. You will see sunrise appearinf from behind the hills. Its light radiates and shapes pieces of pearl on the leaves. Smilimg frosts catch the sun. And look northward, the sea of Buleleng reflects the sunlight through its wavelenghts.

Or select another occasion. When the mist are kissing the trees, the sunlight breaks through fissures of the mist, makes booths of rays. Or come in the afternoon. Choose another corner of Gitgit. You will see how mysteriously the sun dives into the hills.

Shiny grayish-white cloud hang on. The sky of Gitgit turns invisible, and the night falls. Look to northward direction. Flickering lights in Singaraja whisper in distant, like unwilling to sleep in the dark of the night.

The climate of the hills in general, is cool. If you are stressed or uneasy undergoing city’s daily life, you will find an elixir there. Its cool temperature will touch your body and heart.

Bali Travel Guide - 2007

Nusa Penida Bird Sanctuary

The Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothshildi) is an indigenous bird that is part of the fauna of Bali Island. This fascinating bird has clean white feathers and black beak. Population of this bird grows few and far between, the more so in its wild habitat in the Bali Barat National Park. For this reason, The Begawan Giri Foundation, in cooperation with the National Park Enthusiasts Foundation, held a program to breed and preserve this fauna that progressively comes into extinction.

Breeding programs transpiring for 5 months since July 2006 indicated that of the 25 birds bred, 23 birds could survive. This signified that its mortality rate ammounted to 8%. Incapacity factor to adapt naturally on the first deliverance showed that a bird only survived for five days, while another died as it was preyed by a snake when its incarcerating its eggs in a tree.

During this breeding period, there were 5 additional populations. This shows an increase of population as much as 20%. Therefore, the adaptability and birth rate of this bird in the wild nature is moderately good. Proven, the increase of its population is adequately high.

Up to these days, there have been 10 couples established. Those that have indicated the signs of nestling and breeding were 7 couples and even 4 couples have had five offsprings and accomplished to look them after until they could live independently.

The progress of breeding and preservation of this bali starling on Nusa Penida is not separable from the participation of several parties in which one of them is the local community. This proves that the people of Nusa Penida have shown their commitment to conserve the existence of this rare bird. Support of the locals for the conservation of Bali Starling to its wild habitat is the most significant matter if viewed in terms of similar programs in the last habitat of Bali Starling, namely the Bali Barat National Park.

Bali Travel Guide - 2007

Silayukti Temple

Silayukti Temple lays on a hilltop, at the beachside of Padang Bai. All roads and paths are asphalted and completed with beautiful landscape along the roadsides, green grass and colorful flowers. The site plan of this village is ismilar to other villages in the island, holy place, cemetery, lawan and public hall with “Kul Kul” or tom – tom tower.

The village is suitable for some sports such as volleyball, football and biking. On Wednesday 23 july 1989, the former president of Republic Indonesia, Soeharto inaugurated the Palasari dam, considered to be the fifth lake of the island. Although the main goal to build the dam is supplying irrigation for 1,300 hectares of rice field, the dam is very useful for fishery and water sports for tourist.

Its beauty and unique history have been attracting many foreign tourist. Away from the village, the accomodation is nestled on the lake side and overlooking to the dam. Palasari is 112 km west of Denpasar or 26 km east of Gilimanuk.

Unique Christmas Celebration
The best time to visit Palasari is during Christmas holiday. It may be the only one in the world, a Christian community living with Balinese traditions. The Balinese art form and craft are consumed for religious event, especially Christmas celebration. The perform Balinese dance, drama and specific art form at Jembrana regency called “Jegog” at the public hall located near church.

The public hall was built in Balinese architecture, completed with “kulkul” tower. The church and its wall were built with Balinese architecture. The church looks like triple pagodas – Balinese meru. Statue, carving, relief and other onament are in Balinese style too.

During christmas, the church is adorned with Balinese banners, umbrellas and penjor – the balinese decorated bamboo poles. Moreover the penjor is set up in every front of house compound – along the roadsides and looks like Galungan celebration for Hindu Balinese. The Balinese flower offering and flower arrangement are created for celebration. The hand weaving cloth, sarong and Balinese headress are their costumes. What else’s? Their meal is also Balinese. Their tongue, the lingua franca for both daily life and religious events are Balinese. Sometimes, the rhythm of Christian song is sung in Balinese melody.

In this community, they still recognize the Balinese caste and Balinese name combined with Christian name, for instance Gerrard becomes I Gusti Kompyang Jiwa and I Ketut Riasna Emanuel. Why this acculturation appears in Palasari? Their ancestors are Balinese. The first generation consisted of 18 families from Badung regency then created a new settlement above the area of 200 hectares on 15 September 1940 under guidance of Father Simon Buis, since then they changed their religion.

A Cool Break at Ulundanu Temple

Cool and sometimes misty are predominant features of the place where Ulundanu Temple, one of Kahyangan Jagat or universal temple locates. The meaning of the word is highly controversial, but it is generally applied to any pictorial representation of the figures of mythology, although it appears to have deeper, more significant religious meaning, perhaps related to the cult of ancestors. On the other hand, wayang means shadow-the shadow of life as in wayang kulit – the puppet shadow play.

In line with this ancient theatre, there is wayang wong(the human puppet), the archaic of masked drama. Unlike the puppet shadow, wayang wong is rare traditional theatre. The sacred wayang wong could be found at Perancak temple, performed only as part of temple ceremony during its temple festival.

Another could be found at family temple of brahmin castle at Geriya Batuagung, north east of Negara. It is performed during temple festivals, cremations and other ceremonies. Nowdays, it is also performed during the annual Bali Art Festival.

A group from Japan was enthusiastically watching the masked drama based on Ramayana and Mahabarata epics, performed in front of the family temple at Batuagung. Before the performance, all playersor artist pray to the god at the temple. During the performance, some of them are in trance, they dance on wood fire.

The performance is staged on request. The visitors enjoy the performance very much. There are some reasons, why such a tourist attraction is enjoyable-interesting for tourist. The tourist product could not be moved to another place. The authenticity, originality and local atmosphere are the main elements in this performance. Visitors can witness the artist preparing the costumes and attires before dancing-the activity behind the satge.
